In my lecture titled, “Plus Ultra, Beyond Text: Digital 3D Representations of Late Medieval Spanish Inter-Religious History”, I will argue that three-dimensional virtual worlds such as our team’s recreation known as Virtual Plasencia represent a valuable new form of representations of the past. Further, that not only do virtual worlds offers dynamic story-telling, but also an opportunity for novel forms of “observation” of historical events from multiple points of view that cannot be achieved with text alone. I will also argue that just as text employs disciplinary and personal biases, which impact the relationship between the object and the viewer, so do virtual worlds. Both approaches have limitations and advantages; both offer harmonious and multi-beneficial methods of representation.[:]
